New — just published
Hold your walled city block against endless waves of blocky zombies, solo or in co-op with up to 6 friends.
Early beta. Dead Blocks is brand new and still being tuned. Found a bug? Press Esc, then Report Bug, and it goes straight to the developer.
The city fell at dusk. Hold the block until dawn.
Dead Blocks is a top-down co-op zombie shooter built entirely out of cubes. You and up to five friends are walled into a single city block with unlimited ammo, a growing arsenal and one job: stay alive. Every wave runs on a clock, every fifth wave brings something huge, and the night never ends.
- 1 to 6 players online, or go it alone
- Endless waves on a timer, with a boss every 5th wave
- 10 weapons and gadgets, unlocked by chaining kills
- Unlimited ammo. Always.
- Build brick walls, lay tripwire mines, plant fuel drums
- Global leaderboards for solo and co-op
Chain kills. Unlock everything.
You start with a sidearm and a flashlight. Kill fast and keep the chain alive: the second kill in a chain earns a streak point, the third earns two, and it keeps climbing. Your streak unlocks new weapons and upgrades along a 36-step track, from SMGs, shotguns and frags to rocket launchers and an arc rifle whose lightning jumps between zombies. Then come the upgrades: armor-piercing rounds, cluster bomblets, a booby-trapped decoy, akimbo pistols and more.

Know your dead
The horde gets nastier the longer you last.
- Walkers: slow, stubborn and everywhere.
- Runners (wave 2+): fast, fragile and right behind you.
- Brutes (wave 3+): soak up bullets and smash straight through walls.
- Exploders (wave 3+): bloated and glowing. Shoot them from a distance and they take their friends with them.
- Spitters (wave 4+): hang back and lob acid that leaves the ground burning.
Every fifth wave: the Abomination
When the music turns to war drums, look up. The Abomination flattens anyone close with a ground slam, hurls giant fireballs that set the street on fire, charges straight through your walls and roars for packs of runners. Each one that shows up is tougher than the last.

Dig in
Guns alone won't get you to dawn. A see-through hologram shows exactly where each gadget will land before you place it.
- Brick walls: stop zombies and bullets cold. The horde has to smash through, and you can watch the cracks spread. Start with 4 and upgrade to 12 much tougher walls.
- Tripwire mines: arm in under a second and blow when anything steps on them.
- Fuel drums: put one in the horde's path, then shoot it.
- Decoy: a cardboard survivor every zombie wants a piece of. It lasts 20 seconds, then takes 30 to recharge.
Better with friends
Host a public lobby or lock it with a passcode, and bring up to five friends.
- Revive each other: hold E next to a downed friend. Anyone still down gets back up when the wave ends.
- The horde scales up: more survivors means more zombies and tougher ones, so a full squad still has to fight for every wave.
- Explosives-only friendly fire: your bullets can't hurt friends, but your rockets can. Turn it off if you'd like to stay friends.
- Host pause: when the host pauses, the whole game pauses.
Your night, your rules
Set up the match before you start: game speed, zombie speed, health and numbers, your own health and damage taken, the round timer, starting wave, upgrade speed, friendly fire, revives and health crates.
Leaderboards. Solo and co-op runs are ranked globally by wave reached, then by score. Only games on the default rules count, so everyone is playing the same night.

Made by devpax
Every character, texture, sound effect and piece of music in Dead Blocks is generated in code. The game is designed and directed by devpax and built with a lot of help from AI (Claude), which wrote a lot of the code and made the art and sound.
Grab a friend. Hold the block. See you at dawn.

10/22/2026 Hot Fixes, Updates from Suggestions and more!
Oct 22, 2026
Added
- - Difficulty modes: Easy, Medium and Hard, each with its own leaderboard. All existing scores count as Easy.
- - Medium and Hard: tougher, faster and bigger hordes, a bit less health, fewer med kits, and weapons take longer to unlock (about 25% on Medium, about 50% on Hard).
- - Minimap showing you, teammates, zombies, bosses and med kits (green +). M turns it on/off, N moves it between three spots.
- - Off-screen teammate markers with name and distance. Downed teammates flash red.
- - Combo counter next to your name, with a timer bar.
- - Host can kick players from the lobby or pause menu (kicked players can't rejoin until the lobby closes).
- - "Invite Steam Friends" button in the lobby and pause menu.
- - Players page in the co-op pause menu.
- - "Suggest an Idea" in the pause menu and lobby: send ideas straight to the developer.
- - New animated main menu and new logo.
- - New boss music.
- - H shows/hides the controls card.
- - New settings: minimap on/off, minimap position and controls card.
Improved
- - Arc Rifle reworked into a lightning railgun: the beam goes through up to 4 zombies and lightning jumps between nearby zombies. It never hurts teammates.
- - Shotgun hits harder from the start, has a shorter range and fires faster with every upgrade.
- - SMG range reduced.
- - Mines, fuel drums and walls can be placed much faster.
- - Bullet tracers are now short streaks that fly from the gun.
- - Spitters have a shorter range, sometimes miss, and show a green marker where the acid will land.
- - More bosses: 1 on wave 5, 2 on wave 10, then one more every 5 waves (up to 5). Each boss is slightly weaker when they come in groups.
- - Revive bar now shows on every player's screen, and the downed player sees who is reviving them.
- - Match options moved into a "Custom rules" dropdown, and any rule you've changed is highlighted.
- - "Reset to Defaults" added to the Solo, Host, Lobby and Settings pages.
Fixed
- - Bullets now stop in the first zombie they hit, including zombies right up against you.
- - Wall debris when a wall breaks is much smaller.
- - Health crates no longer cast a big shadow on the ground.
- - Testing console commands no longer work in the published game.
Removed
- - "SMG: Armor Piercing" upgrade (replaced by "SMG: Heavy Rounds", a damage upgrade).
- - Old full-length bullet tracers.
- - Combo display in the top-right corner (it now sits next to your name).
Known Issues
- - The lobby closes if the host leaves (no host migration yet).
- - Kicking, friend invites and the shared revive bar are new and haven't had much co-op testing yet. Please use Report Bug if anything acts up.
- - Medium and Hard leaderboards start empty. Be the first!
