Does creating models pay you?
Reply on sbox.game-
Hello,
I create models, props, prefabs whatever you call them.
I can add monetization to their settings, but when I read about "The Play Fund" all I can find is that it pays devs that create maps or games only.
Is it really that? Or at least for now?
What do we really know?
Am I creating models just because I like it or am I getting a little cash bonus with it?
Thanks for your answers. -
I think they said they want to add models eventually. They're basically trialing the monetization with games and maps first. Probably don't want to end up having 500 slightly different version of a barrel on the workshop day one.

I feel like adding models/props to the playfund wouldn't be the smartest, I like it as of now where it's games and maps, the only other things that I feel like could work in the playfund is libraries, models could work but it would also take alot of the playfund money, and also how would it work, based off spawn time? based off how often it's used? what if it's just spawned and left their for 5 hours straight, would it still earn the creator money?

Don’t take this the wrong way, modeling does require insane talent. I tried learning Blender, and it was embarrassing.
That said, I think individual models are often too low-effort for it to make sense, especially since AI can and likely will be able to generate passable models in the near future. Also, individual models don’t inherently add as much value to a game as maps or full games do. I know there are iconic models from HL2 and GMod, but maps can genuinely build an identity for the platform, and it’s games that attract more players. Maps are also often highly iconic and specific to particular gamemodes.Probably don't want to end up having 500 slightly different version of a barrel on the workshop day one.

the only idea that came to mind on how possible this could be was to take a small portion of the mappers playfund split but i absolutely would hate that idea. There's just no good way to do it besides paying for models and to my knowledge facepunch has no interest in a storefront

You could always partner with a mapper & split the playfund that way

what is a map but a collection of model assets? The lines get blurred when a model can include a lot of other things beside the basic mesh and textures.
I think if it were to be added it would be a portion of a maps revenue evenly split the money between all models imported to a map off the workshop, not on how many times or how long it is spawned. The proportion of the maps revenue could be based off the number of workshop models used (5 models at 1%, 500 at 10% probably capping at certain amount).
