How to make a character rotate?

I'm making my own Player Controller because the basic one's capabilities are redundant for my idea, and it can't be edited.
I've also encountered a problem where I can't get my cube to rotate when I press the "left" and "right" keys.
Can someone explain how to make an object rotate in the desired direction when I press the buttons?
