    Hello everyone,

I got into Garry’s Mod around 2010 as a kid, and I absolutely loved it from the moment I first entered the sandbox gamemode on gm_construct. What impressed me the most was the gamemode itself. It was such a weird and unique feeling to play on maps from Source games and just do all kinds of funny random stuff with props, ragdolls, tools, and entities. It didn’t feel like a regular game, it felt like toying with the engine itself.

But the most important thing was the addons created by other people. Addons like wiremod and e2, with all the amazing mechanical contraptions people built with them (wiremod computers were always my favorite). All the fun me and my friends had with cool or goofy sweps like hax, parkour, nuke launchers, nyancat, pcmod, etc, gave me some of the funniest and most unique experiences I wouldn’t get in any other game (besides gta 4, I guess).

So now I’m an adult with a boring 5/2 job that I honestly want to quit, especially during these difficult times for me. I don’t really want to become a full game developer right now. I mostly want to create cool funny stuff and explore the possibilities of the sandbox gamemode.

I know C# to some extent, but I still know almost nothing about 3d modeling, shaders, art, sound design, and all the other parts of game development. I really want to learn all of that, but not by jumping straight into making a full game. I want to start with small addons, mechanics, tools, and fun mini games addons to gain real development experience.

The problem is that while I spend time making addons, other developers will be making full games and earning money from them. I’m not asking for a lot of money, but would it be possible to add some small monetization for addon downloads so creators could at least receive some kind of reward for their work?

This would help content creators like me not feel guilty:( for spending time building things for the sandbox addon ecosystem instead of forcing ourselves to make a full standalone game just to get paid.

After all, the sandbox gamemode will be your flagship game at launch, and I really want to help fill it with interesting content, while receiving just a small amount of income in return to cover basic things like rent, food, and internet while learning.

I think adding monetization to the sandbox gamemode would create a perfect foundation for beginner developers and addon creators to start learning, experiment with ideas, and grow into more serious game development over time, become real game developers on this platform.

Creating a full game is hard. It’s a very stressful process where you need to plan everything so it works properly, and without experience it becomes even harder. Why not give a small financial incentive to beginner content creators so they know there is a clear path for growth, and that they can eventually turn their skills into real income from their games in the future?

Sorry if I misunderstood the idea of your platform and UGC in general,( and also excuse me for using ai to write this post).

Anyway, happy release and happy first year of the platform to everyone! :D
